If available, use GC-MS for volatile fractions or pyrolysis-GC-MS for nonvolatile material to distinguish small siloxanes from silicone polymer components. A complementary silicon-sensitive method such as elemental analysis for Si or XPS/EDS on the sample matrix would help confirm that silicon is truly present.
