If available, run complementary GC-MS or LC-MS for low-molecular-weight components, since the spectrum may include a carbonyl-bearing contaminant or mixture component. Acquire a repeat FTIR spectrum from a fresh preparation or a cleaned substrate/background subtraction to confirm whether the silicon-oxygen fingerprint and the carbonyl bands arise from the same material.
