Manual, composition-oriented FTIR interpretation for samples that are not easily resolved by ordinary automated search. The analysis may combine targeted library search, examination of overlapping spectral contributions, literature, and analytical experience.

Complex-sample conclusions depend on spectrum quality, reference coverage, and sample context. FTIR may narrow the possibilities or support a material class without uniquely identifying every component, so critical conclusions may require another analytical method.
